Institute of Hong Kong Senior Secondary School Music Education was founded in 2011 with the following objectives:

1. To provide quality education in music for senior secondary schools students
2. To nurture young composers and scholars with formal academic training
3. To promote an interactive learning environment with experienced instructors and enthusiastic students
4. To combine theoretical, aural, and practical aspects into curriculum, so that students would receive all-round musical training
5. To build a network connecting all teachers who conduct classes of senior secondary music for enhancement of teaching experiences and course materials

Since the 2011-2012 academic year, the EDB has not been offering any music training for senior secondary schools students. The institute provides in-class teaching service to the school that requests for training of the HKDSE Music. In the programme for new senior secondary music curriculum, different areas in the syllabus will be taught by instructors in the corresponding specialization. These instructors have rich experiences in conducting music classes in senior secondary schools and university level.
